Do Maple and Rosewood fingerboards give different sounds?

cuz wen i see The Edge of U2 playin "Where the Streets Have No Name" he uses only Maple fingerboards where as for songs like "Pride (In The Name of Love)" he only uses only Rosewood fingerboards...do these fingerboards give different sound??
