Symbols in Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt?

This is the second time in as many months that I have seen this question....I wonder if the teachers asking for students to find symbols in this book. the teacher can't know that it is a autobiography / biography about mccourt and his mother. Honestly if I werre in your shoes I would make them up because there is no symbolism in a biography.
