I like this girl...what to do....?

I am in a really small school. I want to ask this girl out,but she said no to one of my friends who asked her out. I dont want to be mean to my friend. What should I do??/ Me and the girl make eye contact and I think welike each other, but that may be biased because I want them to be tru.. What to do..
