When Muslims have doubts about their religion, do they have to find an answer only within Islam?

If you find anything objectionable in your religion, are the Qu'ran and the Sunnah the only books you refer to, or you can read other books which are not part of the Islamic faith? Must you always find an answer or there are unresolved issues within Islam?
